“If you get four exam grades of 60%, 70%, 80%, and 90%, but your lowest score only counts for 12.5% of your final grade (and the other three share the remaining 87.5% equally), here’s how you’d calculate your weighted average:
- Define the weights
- Lowest exam → 12.5% → 0.125
- Each of the other three → (100% − 12.5%)/3 ≈ 29.17% → 0.2917
- Multiply each score by its weight
- 60% × 0.125 = 7.5%
- 70% × 0.2917 ≈ 20.42%
- 80% × 0.2917 ≈ 23.33%
- 90% × 0.2917 ≈ 26.25%
- Sum the weighted scores
7.5 + 20.42 + 23.33 + 26.25 ≈ 77.5%So, even though your raw average is 75% ((60 + 70 + 80 + 90)/4), the weighting rewards your strongest exams and gives you a 77.5% final grade.

How Final Grades Are Calculated (With Example Calculation)
📘 Final Grade Formula Used
Formula:
Final Grade = (Current Grade × (1 − Final Exam Weight)) + (Final Exam Score × Final Exam Weight)
Example: If your current grade is 85%, your final is worth 30% of your total grade, and you score 90% on the final:
Final Grade = (85 × 0.7) + (90 × 0.3) = 59.5 + 27 = 86.5%
This simple formula helps estimate your final course grade based on performance and exam weight.
All calculations are done automatically when you fill in the fields.
